AMERICAN TELEMEDICINE ASSOCIATION WELCOMES NEW CHAIR OF THE BOARD, KRISTI HENDERSON, DNP, NP-C, FAAN
WASHINGTON, DC and BOSTON, MAY 2, 2022 — The American Telemedicine Association (ATA) today announced Kristi Henderson, DNP, NP-C, FAAN, FAEN, as Chair of the Board. Henderson is the CEO of Optum Everycare, where she is leading a team that is building digital and virtual health solutions to improve quality outcomes and experiences for patients and providers. She has served on the ATA Board of Directors since December 2020.
“I am deeply honored to take on this new leadership role with such a vital organization committed to advancing telehealth,” said Henderson. “As the use of virtual care grows, so too does our dedication to ensuring everyone has access to a digitally-enabled system of care. I look forward to a continued partnership with the distinguished ATA Board of Directors, as we aim to change how the world experiences health care.”
Henderson will become Chair of the Board for a two-year term beginning immediately, succeeding Joe Kvedar, MD, Professor, Harvard Medical School, Senior Advisor, Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Innovation in Digital HealthCare, and Editor-in-Chief, npj Digital Medicine, who will become Immediate Past Chair and Senior Advisor to the ATA.
“Kristi is an incredibly accomplished innovator and leader, bringing an ethos of collaboration and resourcefulness in her work, a deep and real-world understanding of what it takes to implement telehealth in care settings, and a passion for improving patient care,” said Ann Mond Johnson, CEO of the ATA. “We have some significant opportunities and obligations ahead, including the important work started by our Advisory Group on eliminating disparities and inequities co-chaired by Kristi, and sharpening our focus on creating a hybrid care delivery model – both high priorities for the ATA and our members.”
Kristi Henderson is a healthcare executive with over 25 years of experience as a digital health leader, innovator, health advocate, educator, researcher, and clinician. She has led national telehealth efforts demonstrating value to customers/patients, clinicians, insurance, health systems, and communities. Before joining Optum Health, she led clinical operations for Amazon Care. Prior to that, she launched AscensionConnect where she led the virtual care, digital health, and patient access strategy for Ascension Health. She is an adjunct faculty member of Population Health at the Dell Medical School at UT-Austin and in the School of Nursing at the University of Washington. She has a long history of successfully pioneering new models of care that utilize technology and other digital health tools. Her statewide Telehealth model in Mississippi was recognized as one of only two Centers of Excellence by HRSA.
Henderson focuses on the design & development of innovative healthcare delivery models but also on the policy, regulations, and workforce necessary to advance telehealth. Her leadership roles include service as an AAMC Telehealth Committee member, ANA co-chair for Committee on Connected Health, and NQF Telehealth Multistakeholder Committee. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and the Emergency Nurses Association. Henderson received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She maintains national certification as a family and acute care nurse practitioner.
