Government Relations

The ATA Government Relations SIG is a collaborative network resource highlighting successful government relations telehealth strategies which support the development of sustainable and viable public policy at both the state and federal levels.

This group is the combination of two previous ATA SIGs that each delved into different aspects of policy – the Business & Policy SIG and the Interstate Workgroup.

The ATA’s Public Policy team attends each SIG meeting and reports on major public policy issues facing the ATA, alerting group members as to action items, and providing a readout of the latest policy determinations made by the ATA Policy Council. The Policy Council will continue to make final determinations as to the policy positions taken by the ATA and ATA Action.

Areas of focus:
This member-driven group works to identify the value proposition of patient-centered laws and regulations governing the use of clinically appropriate telehealth and discuss strategies on how to make these public policy aims reality. The SIG accomplishes these objectives through:

  • Sharing the latest actionable intelligence on federal and state telehealth policy
  • Developing strategies on how to pass laws consistent with the ATA’s Policy Principles
  • Collaborating regularly with the ATA’s Public Policy team
  • Providing a policy discussion forum, with the ability to work with the ATA Public Policy Team in determining whether a particular issue may be ripe for Policy Council adjudication
  • Creating subcommittees focused on specific issue areas, potentially including:
    • Federal policy
    • State policy, with a particular emphasis on enabling telehealth across state lines, including state compacts
    • Other areas as determined by SIG leadership and members
  • Convening ad hoc coalition calls that can be rapidly scheduled to ensure SIG members are able to coalesce on government relations issues that are time sensitive
