ATA Accredits New Teleheath Training Program

On February 6, 2017, the American Telemedicine Association Training Program Accreditation Committee voted to award accreditation for a Certificate in Telehealth offered by Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. The Telehealth Facilitator program is offered through the Institute of Emerging Health Professions at the University. The program consists of five learning modules (each designed to be completed in five weeks following the start of each program cohort), and successful completion of all program requirements will earn graduates a certificate and continuing medical education credits for some health professionals.

While there are other Telehealth Facilitator certificate programs offered by different organizations in the United States, this is the only one accredited by the American Telemedicine Association. According to Dr. Judd Hollander, Associate Dean for Strategic Health Initiatives at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University:

“The advantage of getting trained by Jefferson is that we are an academic medical school, we have experience delivering telehealth services in every department in the health system, and the curriculum was developed in combination with Jefferson full-time academic physicians and Jefferson telehealth administration. We bring to the table clinical, academic, and program level telehealth experience.”
