Telehealth Policy Update – June 2023

This webinar featured Jeffery Smith, Deputy Director, Certification & Testing Division, at the Office of National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), who presented background on the role of ONC compared to other intergovernmental agencies, particularly in the area of artificial intelligence (AI). He will also cover the development process for ONC’s Health Data, Technology, and Interoperability: Certification Program Updates, Algorithm Transparency, and Information Sharing (HTI-1) Proposed Rule, including its overall goal and purpose, timeline for implementation and the ability of Americans to have their voice heard on the rule. Leslie Krigstein, Vice President, Communications and Government Affairs at Transcarent and ATA’s Alexis Apple also offered insights as part of this panel.

Panelists also addressed:

• Patient data privacy and some actions that the proposed rule takes to protect patients’ private information, as well as how organizations delivering health services are able to protect consumer privacy
• How ONC is working to eliminate bias and ensure access to healthcare for all Americans, particularly in underserved communities
• How stakeholders should approach responding to the proposed, particularly regarding some of its more technical aspects
